This curriculum introduces the “Education and Research Expense Support System” to create an environment where students can concentrate on their studies by receiving financial support. In addition to the Tokyo Tech Doctoral Student Scholarship TSUBAME, which is provided to all doctoral students, the system provides the following support.

  • Super Smart Society Doctoral Leadership Scholarship

Among the program’s enrolled students, students with a high research ability or outstanding potential will be provided a scholarship with an upper limit of two million yen per year. Recipients are selected during the mid-term examination based on evaluations of the students’ participation at an “Interdisciplinary Matching Workshop” and interviews with the program faculty members.
Note: If you are receiving RA salary from a joint research with SSS consortium partners or from national projects, the scholarship will be provided within a total of 2 million yen or less in principle. The same applies if you have other scholarships.(Tsubame Scholarship is not subject to this payment restriction.)

  • Research assistantship for promoting interdisciplinary collaborative research

If the research seed of the enrolled student matches the needs of the consortium-participating companies, the student is granted research assistantship to conduct the established collaborative research.

In addition to the aforementioned support, since active collaboration with MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) research projects is promoted, students belonging to this program may be employed as research assistants for the aforementioned projects as well. Even if the students cannot obtain a scholarship or research assistantship for promoting interdisciplinary collaborative research, the research assistant expenses of the supervisor may be applied if the student’s support is deemed essential in a project.
