SSS Global Forum 2021: Future of Super Smart Society

The SSS Global Forum was held online over two days on November 19 and 20. This year's main theme was "Future of Super Smart Society". About 60 students and faculty members, including 11 international advisors, participated in the forum.

Day 1 Lectures by International Advisors
Prof. Wilfred.G. van der Wiel from the University of Twente (The Netherlands) focused on the brain as a natural information processing system for more efficient information processing, and spoke about how nanomaterial networks can be trained using the principle of material learning to take full advantage of the computational power of matter.
Prof. Jenq-Shiou Leu from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology introduced four common positioning schemes and the results of their implementation in a video about indoor positioning technology, which has become indispensable in real life due to the evolution of smartphones.
Many questions were raised in response to the lectures, and even at the closing of the event, one of the students stopped the lecturers to ask questions, resulting in a lively exchange of opinions on cutting-edge research.

Day 2 Group work style presentation and discussion
First half: 10 WISE-SSS students presented their research and received advice on their research from the international advisors.
Second half: The students selected one of the six scenarios for the year 2030 from the "Future Scenarios" listed by DLab (Laboratory for Design of Social Innovation in Global Networks) as their theme, created proposals from a scientific and technological perspective to realize the scenario, and discussed them with international advisors.
What kind of future society do people desire, and how can advanced science and technology contribute to the realization of that future? This group work provided an opportunity to think deeply about this question.
