Outline and objective of WISE-SSS

In the Industrial Revolution and the Information Revolution, advanced science and innovative engineering have transformed our society. The next revolution is the fifth revolution, the realization of a super smart society. In order to realize a super smart society, it is essential to integrate physical space technologies such as machinery, electricity, and construction with cyber space technologies, as well as to combine advanced sciences and technologies, such as quantum science. Quantum science is a discipline based on quantum mechanics that governs the smallest unit of material and energy, “quantum.” The quantum computer that realizes massively parallel computing has dramatically improved the capabilities of artificial intelligence (such as deep learning). Also, it is expected that cryptographic communication will provide secure network technology and enable automated driving with IoT using quantum sensors with ultimate sensitivity.

The Tokyo Tech Academy for Super Smart Society (WISE-SSS) offers a degree program that integrates masters and doctoral courses. The integrated program aims to cultivate "knowledge professionals" with technical and professional knowledge so that they can lead a sector in industry-government-academia to realize a super smart society based on quantum science.

This program cultivates five essential skills to realize a future Super Smart Society based on quantum science, in addition to providing education to students in their graduate major.

Three policies​

1. Admission policy

  • Have basic academic ability in science and engineering, and can think/express logically based on it​
  • Have a wealthy & wide range of knowledge, and can grasp things from various perspectives
  • Have the language skills to conduct research and work on technological development, from a global perspective​
  • Have the will to boldly challenge the unknown world and the qualities that demonstrate global leadership
  • Be interested in a wide range of scientific fields and social issues, and willing to pursue interdisciplinary research​

2. Curriculum policy

The following education will be provided to cultivate the power set forth in the degree policy:​
  • To cultivate core academic abilities, such as quantum science and artificial intelligence, and specialized academic abilities involving both cyber and physical spaces​
  • To foster a bird's-eye view of things via collaboration with society​
  • To cultivate the ability to solve problems by fusing/collecting knowledge from different fields​
  • To foster the ability to demonstrate leadership in the global society

3. Degree policy

Students who have acquired the following abilities and have the required credits will be certified as completed:​
  • To analyze and solve social issues from an original and multifaceted perspective based on outstanding expertise​
  • To possess the necessary strength to realize a super smart society based on quantum science​​
  • To grasp things from a bird's-eye view, analyze them with logical thinking, and disseminate new knowledge​
  • To understand things from a bird's-eye and global view, act concretely, and demonstrate leadership
  • To explain logically and correspondingly, situation by situation, to society​
